Whalen Heads Carrington Investment Banking

Carrington Holding Co. has hired Christopher Whalen to head its investment banking operations, according to the Santa Ana, Calif., mortgage banking and servicing company.

Whalen served previously as senior managing director at Tangent Capital Partners, a merchant bank in New York City. He is a co-founder and vice chairman of the board of Institutional Risk Analytics in Torrance, California.

Whalen said he has been focused on the evolution on the housing finance system for the past several years.

“With commercial banks exiting the wholesale real estate lending and servicing business,” he said, “ there is an enormous opportunity and challenge” for non-bank companies like Carrington.

In his new job, Whalen will be executive vice president and managing director for Carrington Investment Services, LLC.

“I’m confident his expertise in banking and regulatory affairs will be instrumental in growing the company’s influence and leadership in the institutional mortgage and real estate markets and assist our expansion in other investment strategies,” said CHC founder and chief executive Bruce Rose.
